Smithery
Tried ItWorth Trying
The better MCP registry. Great for early experimentation. Less necessary as native integrations grow.

What I use it for
MCP server discovery
Where it shines
- More effective than MCP.so for discovering and testing MCP servers.
- Good interface for browsing the MCP ecosystem.
Where it struggles
- Native MCP integrations in Claude, connectors, and plugins are reducing the need for standalone registries.
- Usage has dropped significantly as the ecosystem matures and tools build MCP support directly.
Notes
Smithery was my preferred MCP registry over MCP.so. More effective for actually finding and testing servers during early MCP experimentation. But the story has shifted — native connections, integrated plugins, and built-in MCP support in tools like Claude have reduced the need for standalone registries. Great for early experimentation, less essential now.
How to try it
Visit smithery.ai and browse available MCP servers. Try installing one into your Claude or other MCP-compatible tool.
